BASIC FUNCTION:  Responsible for evaluation, planning, directing and administering physical therapy modalities of treatment. Evaluates and treats patients suffering from a physical disability due to injury, disease or surgery. Establishes treatment plans and treats patients using a variety of methods, including exercises, wound care, aquatic therapy, stretching maneuvers, hands-on therapy, and equipment to ease patients’ pain and help them increase their mobility. Works cooperatively with physicians, physician assistants (PA), nurse practitioners (NP), case managers, and insurance adjusters. May supervise physical therapy assistants, aides, and athletic trainers. Administers treatments and physical agents in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, surgery, disease, or physical disability. Responsible for direction of the Rehabilitation Services Department certified staff, including Physical Therapy Assistants, Physical Therapy students, Physical Therapy Aides, and Techs. Provides services to a broad spectrum of patients which may include pediatrics, adult, inpatient, outpatient and geriatric at various Grand River Hospital District campuses as assigned.  Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.
