Chris’ nomination letter: On December 18th my daughter suffered a broken arm after a fall at gymnastics. Upon arrival at the Emergency Room we met Chris. I could not have asked for a better care taker for my daughter during this difficult time. Although she put on a brave face, she was terrified to say the least. Chris’ ability to remain calm, and collected as well as his kindness and compassion were a source of immense comfort for both of us during this time. Chris was wonderful at keeping her informed of what was happening during the entire process in a way that put her at ease. His skillful care not only attended to her physical injury, but also contributed significantly to her emotional well-being. As a parent, this held much value and I felt my child was in good hands in his care. The care we received will no doubt have a lasting impact on our family as she now is thinking of nursing as a future career. Thank you Chris, our family is forever grateful for your exceptional care.

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way. To learn more, visit DAISYFoundation.org
