A native to Colorado, Chelsea grew up in Boulder. She attended Metropolitan State University where she played for the varsity basketball team. She then received her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. After her formal training, she moved to Baltimore where she completed a Physician Assistant Emergency Medicine Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
After 2 years in Baltimore, Chelsea and her, now husband, packed up their chocolate lab and moved home to Colorado. They couldn’t be more happy living on the western slope and working with the amazing people, and community at Grand River Hospital.

Karen Campbell, PA-C
Orthopaedics
Karen graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine and quickly found her fit in Sports Medicine. Since 2005, she has cared for the diverse orthopaedic needs of the Rocky Mountain community, where she was raised. After starting a family of her own, Karen spent 3 years practicing family medicine in Carbondale, but happily returned to her career in orthopaedic surgery at Grand River Hospital in 2017. She has enjoyed traveling and serving in many parts of the world, including surgical missions. She lives outside of Glenwood Springs with her daughter, where she fly fishes, trail runs and skis.

Originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, Ms. Gonzalez-Ortega, moved to Colorado in 2000 at the age of 15. She enrolled at Colorado Mountain College in 2011 and began her medical education by obtaining her CNA certification. She then worked as a medical assistant while pursuing her ADN and BSN degrees. In 2024, she completed her Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Post University in Connecticut. She is Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Ms. Gonzalez-Ortega is excited to begin her practice at Grand River Health as a Family Nurse Practitioner after working as a Nurse, Clinic Manager and lastly as a RN in our Infusion Clinic. She is fully bilingual and bicultural and possesses a deep understanding of the Hispanic culture and is committed to providing culturally sensitive and accessible care to the Hispanic community. She is dedicated to addressing the healthcare needs of the underserved. “I feel strongly that I have the passion, commitment, and the perseverance that it takes to excel as a Family Nurse Practitioner and be of great service to my community, especially because I am so very passionate about helping people in need.”
When not practicing medicine, Ms. Gonzalez-Ortega enjoys staying active through activities like working out, hiking, and reading. She is passionate about building meaningful connections within the community and is a proud mother of three and grandmother of one.
