Born in Venezuela and raised in the United States from the age of four, Dr. Olsen brings a rich cultural background, a deep sense of empathy and Spanish fluency to his medical practice. He grew up in rural Florida and Michigan and learned English in 2 weeks by watching Sesame Street.

Dr. Olsen earned his medical degree from the University of Washington in Seattle and completed his residency at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. His path to medicine was unique – before becoming a physician, he worked as a carpenter for 17 years. These experiences, including facing derision and being talked down to in healthcare settings, shaped his commitment to treating patients with dignity and compassion. Dr. Olsen is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

He believes in caring for the whole person, not just treating symptoms, and strives to uncover underlying causes of illness. His goal has always been to practice in a warm, rural community where he could truly make a difference. “I want my patients to know I understand pain, both physically and emotionally, because of my own life experiences.”

Dr Olsen lives in Rifle with his wife Eva. Outside of medicine, Dr. Olsen enjoys birdwatching, nature photography, mountain biking, and hiking. He also cherishes spending time with his adult daughter in Washington state.
