On June 15th, Grand River Health celebrated the opening of the much anticipated patient wing expansion.
The new expansion includes over 115,000 square feet and three floors. It is home to a new Infusion Center, Cardiac Rehab and 25 additional private patient rooms including 4 Step Down Unit rooms. Step Down Units (SDUs) provide an intermediate level of care between the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and the general medical-surgical wards.
The new Infusion Center will feature 6 Patient rooms with a lovely view of the Infusion garden from all patient areas.
Cardiac Rehab services have been on the wish list of the community for several years. The new patient wing now gives Grand River Health the space to provide this service for our patients. Beginning in August 2021 we will be opening the new Cardiac Rehab department. In the near future Changing Lifestyles will move directly next door to Cardio Pulmonary and cardiac rehab since the two are so closely linked
The Grand River Health gift shop, “Grand River Gifts” is almost quadrupling in space and will offer a wider selection of gifts, floral arrangements, chocolates clothing, cards, small gifts, and snacks. They celebrated their grand opening on June 28th, welcoming the community to their new space.
The 3rd Floor is currently shell space to accommodate for future expansion in the coming decades. It was more cost efficient to add a third floor during this construction than to try and add it in the future. The cost savings was about 2/3 of the cost to add on later.
